When using ultra low freezers in laboratories, freezers are often being set at -80'C. However, many samples are safe to be stored in -70'C condition. At the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder), the Mark Winey Lab of the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) Department is storing important stock collections in their ULT freezers set at -70C. Examples in their labs are yeast strains, pelleted cells from tissue culture, ground up yeast cultures, samples to send off for mass spec, ecoli...chemical competent and freezer stocks, purified recombinant protein, pellicles, cell lysates, some antibodies or serum, protein samples.
